Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 14th December – Devil in a Black Dress – Jo Carley and the Old Dry Skulls

What do you get when you mix vaudeville cabaret, the blues and a bit of voodoo, well you get Jo Carley and the Old Dry Skulls.

I really love this song, its the type of music that I could picture myself shaking to in a dark smoky back alley club.

Its kind of syrupy and wonderful to listen to and you can so easily tap your foot to the beat!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 13th December – Somewhere Under the Graveyard – Jamey Rottencorpse And The Rising Dead

This punk parody of Somewhere Under The Rainbow is just great, a little bit retro, a little bit comedy and all horror punk!

And sometimes horror punk is what you need isn’t it, damn I wish I had been alive for the height of proper punk, but these guys are a real idea of that that was like.

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 12th December – Leaf on the Wind – The Bedlam Bards

Its still too soon, its always going to be too soon for this!

Another Firefly inspired song, well Serenity, the movie, but this still hurts, it hurts so much!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 11th December – The Philosophical Zombie Slayer – Rock, Paper, Cynic

When I first heard this I groaned, there are so many puns, its a great song, but you will groan!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 10th December – Block Breaker – Meri Amber

Originally another Meri Amber song was to occupy this spot, but its not widely available, so I have brought in this excellent song from her Origin Story album.

Its a rather sad song really and is about losing interest in a relationship and allowing it to fall apart all around you.

Its a very singable tune though and really does show off the talent that Meri has in spades!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 9th December – RPG Song – Professor Shyguy

Sometimes you need a good but of chiptune and here is an excellent song by Professor Shyguy.

I am not sure what else to say about this, buts is a fun tune very much inspired by the RPGs of the 3rd and 4th generation of consoles.

Its an excellent song and really gets your blood pumping.

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 8th December – PC99/On the PC – Tom Smith

Sometimes taking an old song and rewriting it can get you something amazing, and this parody of Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid is amazing.

This song is from way way back, 1999 specifically, a time in which I was heavily involved in PC gaming, way more than I am now, heading off to LAN parties in Ipswich and London and this was a song we played quite a bit.

Its just filled with what now we would consider retro, which makes me feel far far too old now!

Also really do look into Toms music, he is one of the giants of the world of filk and has a ton of amazing songs, he is one performer I would really love to see live!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 7th December – Best Game Ever – Mikey Mason

This song by nerdy comedian Mikey Mason, really reminds me of the great DnD games I used to play as a kid with my old group, until we went our separate ways for university. But yeah this is such a relevant song, and makes me see the days when I was a Bard attempting to slay a dragon with a lute and a few poems!

Its a great song, and I absolutely love how it makes me feel, my polycule wants to start an RPG session soon, and they are looking at me to GM, so that is something I need to do in the new year!

Anyway, what do you guys think of the song, I really like it and if you had a childhood like mine, I think you will too!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 6th December – The Middle – The Doubleclicks

Regular readers will know how much I love The Doubleclick, and well its no surprise I am featuring them in this years advent!

I also rather love that rock music of the late 90s/early 00s that I grew up with, so when The Doubleclicks covered it, well its been a staple of my playlists for a long time.

And the video for it is so very cute and delightful

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 5th December – Love is Basic – The PDX Broadsides

How about a nice little ditty by the PDX Broadsides, a wonderful nerd trio from Portland, surprisingly!

They make some great pop folk music about geek stuff and topics they love, like science and superheroes.

They are an eclectic bunch and that really comes across in their music!
