Nerdy Musical Advent 2022 – 5th December – Tribbles and Ecstasy – Warp 11

Once again, if you know me, you know how big a Trekkie I am, my earliest memory of TV is, usurpingly Star Trek: The Original Series on the small black and white TV my parents had before we moved to London.

So no surprise that I like a lot of Star Trek themed songs, and this one from Warp 11 is very cool, you should give their stuff a listen, it’s really great, and entirely about Star Trek!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2022 – 4th December – I’m The One That’s Cool – The Guild

The Guild, was a brilliant web series from a few years back written by Felica Day, one of geekdoms favourite actors.

To promote the show, which was about a guild in an MMORPG, they released the occasional song, the very first song in the first advent, in 2019 was their first song, so it’s been a while since they have featured.

Anyway, here is their third and last single

Nerdy Musical Advent 2022 – 3rd December – I Pity The Fool – Molly Lewis

Let’s have a happy song today, and this was specifically written to be happy, and it’s by one of my favourite ukulele artists (I do like the ukulele a lot), Molly Lewis.

She wrote this after reading Mr Ts autobiography and the video I found of her performance has her explain this, and it’s a really fun and happy song!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2022 – 2nd December – Death Death (Devil, Devil, Evil, Evil Song) – Aurelio Voltaire

Aurelio Voltaire is a musician who is kinda hard to classify, his music is folk, but also goth, cabaret and lots more.

I enjoy his music, a lot, especially his Trek stuff, but I think this is the typoe of song that Paul, my meta, will enjoy a hell of a lot!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2022 – 1st December – Rock City News – Nerf Herder

It’s the 1st December and for the 4th year running, my nerdy music advent is back, so come back here for the next 24 days for a new nerdy song that I love and want to share!

Today we start with one of the original geek rock bands, Nerf Herder and their track Rock City News from 2002s American Cheese, its an awesome rocky song, and its a lot of fun to listen to.

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 24th December – Don’t Sail There No More – Misbehavin’ Maidens

We started the year with a NSFW song, so lets end it on another one!

Last year, the post which had a song by the Misbehavin’s Maidens was the most read post of the year, so I figured why not repeat that, but more to the point its a good nerdy, filhy ditty!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 21st December – 100 Percent – SΔMMUS

SΔMMUS is a rapper, who on the surface, sounds quite mainstream, you could easily mistake her for a muggle rapper.

But come on, look at the her name, and then listen to her music, yeah she is one of us!

But lets not undersell her, she has mainstream connections as well, her brother is part of Gym Class Heroes, and she cites influences as diverse as Weezer and Kayne West

And as for herself, wow, what a woman, she has a PhD in Science and Technology from Cornell, I mean that’s impressive.

What I love about her music though, is the way she blends nerd topics, with African beats, and stuff that’s quite ordinary. I absolutely love that she makes music which celebrates blackness and her interests without pigeonholing herself whatsoever!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 22nd December – Skullcrusher Mountain – Jonathan Coulton

JoCo is no stranger to this list, although this is his sole entry in the list this year.

so why not go with his signature songs, and the idea of a half-monkey, half-pony monster!

I loved playing this in Rock Band back in the day, its a great little song with lots of funny imagery!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 21st December – I Ship It – The PDX Broadsides

We return to The PDX Broadsides whom I featured back on the 5th, and this is a nice little song about shipping.

Shipping is a fandom term for Relationshipping in which is the desire by the fandom to see specific people enter a romantic, or perhaps even just a sexual relationship.

And lets face it we have all done some shipping, and why not, sometimes characters will just work, hence why its often done in fan fiction

Lindsay is a fan of a specific form of shipping called slash!

Nerdy Musical Advent 2021 – 20th December – A Song for People Who Never Watch Star Trek – Warp 11

If you know me, then you know I am a massive massive Trekkie, I mean my earliest memory is watching Space Seed on a black and white TV in my parents sitting room in a block of flats while playing with my A-Team van as Paul cried because he wanted the van off me!

Anyway, I cannot even say how much I absolutely love Star Trek, and I don’t care which series it is, even the rubbish episodes have something for them.

So of course I love any kind of Star Trek music, and Warp 11 are some of my favourites.

Yet there are still people who never watch Star Trek and I find that super weird!
