A Week of Nowt

This week has been well a lot of nowt.

I got a fair few things painted, but not much else, I wanted to play some more Bioshock Infinite but the plans to do that fell apart.

I must do better next week.

In the meantime, I also must stop arguing with poorly educated idiots who love to spread nonsense about the Covid vaccine.

I mean trust me, no one wants Covid, but the fact that people don’t get the concept of herd immunity achieved through vaccination just astounds me.

And then you get comments like this…

What I Am Modelling

I started off by finishing the two units of Vindictors from Dominion.

And then I moved onto the Volkite weaponry for my Adeptus Titanicus titans, so lots of opportunity to shout CHOOOOOOM!!!

Then I finished off the scenery from Mortal Realms by winging the Gryph-Hound Statues.

After that I started on Kurdoss Valentian and Lady Olynder. I got Kurdoss finished first.

Quickly followed by Lady Olynder.

And this completes my Nighthaunt, apart from a Black Coach and the limited edition Guardian of Souls, I have everything for the army that they make.

I might in the future add the Black Coach but I am not entirely sure when this will be.

I also painted up a Knight Castellan for my House Taranis Imperial Knights.

I did a lot of it on Stream Friday night and then finished most of the rest on Saturday morning.

I am a big fan of Imperial Knights, but I need to add a few more to my force, got a Warden in the box, but want another Crusader, some Helverins and then perhaps some Cerastus Knights.

I am currently working on the Triarch Praetorians and the Blackstone Fortress Traitor Guardsmen, Commissar and Ogryn.

So what’s coming up next week then?

  1. Zone Mortalis Terrain
  2. Legio Custodes Pallas Grav-Attack x 2
  3. Blackstone Fortress Traitor Guardsmen x 21, Commissar and Ogryn
  4. Stormcast Eternals Praetors x 3, Knight-Vexillor & Vindictor
  5. Flesh-Eater Courts Crypt Ghouls x 20 & Crypt
  6. Legio Custodes Agamatus Jetbike x 3
  7. Mechanicum Secutarii Hoplites x 10 & Termite
  8. Necron Triarch Praetorians x 5
  9. Stormcast Eternals Annihilators x3, Lord Imperatant & Gryph Hound
  10. Blitzkrieg German HQ & MG34 MMG Team

What I Am Reading

I finished The Serpent and the Dead by Anna Stephens, and I loved it, will have a full review up in a few days.

I listened to Tomb of the Necron by Cavan Scott, the last of the current series of Warped Galaxies books for Warhammer Adventures.

It was very enjoyable and I hope they pick up the series again and give us further adventures of the trio and their allies.

What Video Games Am I Playing

Played a little Forza Horizon 4, a bit of Halo 2 Anniversary.

Tried out The Evil Within, but I didn’t really enjoy it.

I did try out XCloud gaming, playing some Forza Horizon 4 on my iPhone over a 5G signal whilst visiting my sister in law.

What Tabletop Games Am I Playing

On Sunday we had a game of Deep Space Nine Fluxx which I won, which is a very rare thing!

What I Am Creating

I managed to get the next episode of Edge of Empire published, just need to record another one!

What Am I Backing

I completed the pledge managers for Orlog and The Isle of Cats: Don’t Forget The Kittens.

And I am currently backing Avatar Legends at the Otter-Penguin level, considered going up to Polar Bear Dog, but the girls aren’t joining in, so I can’t justify the extra $25

What I Am Cooking

Yet another week of noting.

Starting Blades of Khorne with Mortal Realms

Many of you in the next week or so will be getting your premium kit with the Blades of Khorne for Mortal Realms and as such, may be thinking, can I start an army of these.

So just like with the other three packs for the Flesh Eater Courts, Sylvaneth, and Orruk Warclans, I will take a look at how to expand this pack into 1000pts and 2000pts as cost effectively as possible.

So let’s start by looking at what you get in the pack.

  • Bloodmaster
  • Flesh Hounds
  • Blood Warriors

Now if we plug that into BattleScribe, you get 380 points worth, which is 10 points lower than the Orruks.

Now as a Khorne Player myself, I can tell you that this is a weird start to a Blades army.

Generally speaking I would personally concentrate on either Mortals or Daemons, rather than a mix. But hey I am crap player and I do play a mixture myself.

So how would I expand this to 1000 points, well I would start with the Start Collecting! Khorne Bloodbound Goreblade Warband. This is most of the original Age of Sogmar starter set.

So what do you get, well in here is a Mighty Lord of Khorne, a Bloodscrator, Blood Stoker, Khorgorath, 5 Blood Warriors and 10 Blood Reavers.

And this brings you right up to 990 points which is right on the mark of where you need to be, and that’s without using any Warscroll Battalions.

Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne: Blade of Blood

Bloodsecrator: Ensorcelled Axe

Bloodstoker: Blood Whip, Torture Blade

Mighty Lord of Khorne: Axe of Khorne, Flesh Hound

+ Battleline +

Blood Warriors: 2x 5 Blood Warriors, Goreaxe and Gorefist

Blood Warriors: 5 Blood Warriors, Goreaxe and Gorefist

Bloodreavers: 10 Bloodreavers, Reaver Blades

Flesh Hounds: 5 Flesh Hounds, Blood-dark Claws, Burning Roar

+ Other +

Khorgoraths
. Khorgorath: Bone Tentacles, Claws and Fangs

Getting to 2000 points means I think we need to pay attention to the Daemons side of things, so I would grab Start Collecting! Daemons of Khorne, which gives you three Bloodcrushers, ten Bloodletters and a Herald of Khorne on a Blood Throne, but I would build this as a skull cannon.

This then allows you to combine all of the Khorne Daemon units into a Murderhost, which is actually a really handy Warscroll Battalion.

And that gets us all the way up to 1510 points, so now I would now look at another Battalion, in this case the Gore Pilgrims for which we need to make a couple of purchases, specifically a couple of Slaughterpriests, for which there are two different models, the original one and one released a little bit later with Hackblade and Wrath-Hammer , and this brings us up to 1850.

At this point I personally would actually buy a box of Bloodreavers, these are very squishy and will die easily, which gives you Blood Tithe points, which you will want, and you will probably want a fair few more Bloodletters to summon with these eventually, but that’s something you can sort out later on.

And that brings you to 1990 points.

Bloodstoker: Blood Whip, Torture Blade

Mighty Lord of Khorne: Axe of Khorne, Flesh Hound

+ Other +

Khorgoraths
. Khorgorath: Bone Tentacles, Claws and Fangs

+ Battalion +

Battalion: Gore Pilgrims: Gore Pilgrims
. Blood Warriors: 5 Blood Warriors, Goreaxe and Gorefist
. Blood Warriors: 2x 5 Blood Warriors, Goreaxe and Gorefist
. Bloodreavers: 10 Bloodreavers, Reaver Blades
. Bloodsecrator: Ensorcelled Axe
. Slaughterpriest: Bloodbathed Axe
. Slaughterpriest: Hackblade & Wrath-hammer

Battalion: Murderhost: Murderhost
. Bloodcrushers: 3 Bloodcrushers, Hellblade, Juggernaut's Brazen Hooves
. Bloodletters: 10 Bloodletters, Hellblade
. Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne: Blade of Blood
. Flesh Hounds: 5 Flesh Hounds, Blood-dark Claws, Burning Roar
. Skull Cannons: Burning Skull, Gnashing Maw, Hellblades, Skull Cannon

I am not gonna pretend I am a tactical genius here, this list is probably very sub-optimal, but it’s what I would do personally because I think this is a nice route to 2000 points. And if purchased from Element Games, this will cost you a grand total of £155.

I would also giver serious consideration to grabbing some extra Daemons for summoning, which can be done with the Blood Tithe points, and it really can make a big difference to the game.

And the Skull Altar can be taken for free, and is surprisingly helpful in game.

In terms of painting, I would point you towards the tutorial on YouTube for the original Age of Sigmar Release.

There are also videos for the two Khorne Underworlds warbands too.

And here are a couple of ideas for your Bloodletters.

There is a cool basing guide as well from Warhammer TV that looks ace.

So let me know what you think of my ideas, and if you are gonna give them a try out, let me know how it goes!

Just a quick note, if you do follow the links to Element Games and buy something from them, a little bit of a commission is made for Edge of Empire which helps keep the podcast running.

Starting Orruk Warclans with Mortal Realms

Many of you in the next few days will be getting your premium kit with the Orruk Warclans for Mortal Realms and as such, may be thinking, can I start an army of these.

So just like with the last two packs for Flesh Eater Courts and Sylvaneth I will take a look at how to expand this pack into 1000pts and 2000pts as cost effectively as possible.

So let’s start by looking at what you get in the pack.

  • Megaboss
  • Weirdnob Shaman
  • Brutes

Now plugging that into Battlescribe, that gives you a total points of 390, so the lowest number of points in these packs so far!

Now for this I am going to do my best to keep you to the Ironjawz, which does limit the available units quite a bit.

So where to start with these to get them to 1000 points, well I would look at the Battletome first which identifies that from what we have and I think we are going to aim for an Ironfist, for which we need 3-5 Brutes, Ardboys or Gore-Gruntas. So we need to make a purchase, and the first one I would make is, Start Collecting Ironjawz, which gives you 10 Ardboys, 3 Gore-Gruntas and a Warchanter.

This will bring you to 910 points, not including the Warchanter, so I would then purchase a single Command Point and leave it at that.

So one purchase, gets you right up to 1000 points, and gives you the below list, ignore the weapon choices and go with what you prefer.

+ Leader +

Orruk Megaboss

Orruk Weirdnob Shaman

+ Battalion +

Battalion: Ironfist
. Orruk Ardboys: 2x 5 Ardboys, Standard Bearer (Orruk), Waaagh! Drummer
. Orruk Brutes: 5 Brutes, Boss Choppa, Pair of Brute Choppas
. Orruk Gore-Gruntas: 3 Gore-Gruntas, Pig-iron Choppa

+ Command Points +

Purchased Command Points: 1 Command Point

Now to get you to 2000 points, I think this is a nice opportunity to purchase one of the nicest kits in the whole Age of Sigmar range, the Megaboss on Maw-Krusha!

Now I am gonna suggest another Warscroll Battalion, the Weirdfist, so we are gonna buy some other stuff too. Now lets add a unit of Brutes to the Ironfist, and move the Ardboys to the Weirdfist along with the Weirdnob Shaman.

To complete this, we need to buy a box of Ardboys and another box of Brutes and this brings you to 1970 points.

Giving us this list, again ignore the weapon choices and go with what you prefer.

+ Leader +

Megaboss on Maw-krusha: Boss Choppa and Rip-toof Fist

Orruk Megaboss

+ Battalion +

Battalion: Ironfist
. Orruk Brutes: 5 Brutes, Boss Choppa, Pair of Brute Choppas
. Orruk Brutes: 5 Brutes, Boss Klaw and Brute Smasha, Pair of Brute Choppas
. Orruk Gore-Gruntas: 3 Gore-Gruntas, Pig-iron Choppa

Battalion: Weirdfist
. Orruk Ardboys: 2x 5 Ardboys, Standard Bearer (Orruk), Waaagh! Drummer
. Orruk Ardboys: 2x 5 Ardboys, Standard Bearer (Orruk), Waaagh! Drummer
. Orruk Brutes: 5 Brutes, Boss Klaw and Brute Smasha, Pair of Brute Choppas
. Orruk Weirdnob Shaman

I am not gonna pretend I am a tactical genius here, this list is probably very sub-optimal, but it’s what I would do personally because I think this is a nice route to 2000 points. And if purchased from Element Games, this will cost you a grand total of £191.51.

You are also left with a Warchanter, and 5 Ardboys to do something else with should you wish.

In terms of painting, I would point you towards the tutorial on YouTube by Duncan Rhodes when he was at Warhammer TV for Ironskulls Boyz and the more recent video by Nick for Mogrok’s Krushas

So let me know what you think of my ideas, and if you are gonna give them a try out, let me know how it goes!

Starting Sylvaneth with Mortal Realms

A lot of you will now be getting into your hands the second Premium Pack for Hachettes Mortal Realms, and this time it contains Sylvaneth so just like last time with the Flesh Eaters Courts, let’s look at how you can expand this set into a 1000ts and 2000pts army.

So let’s start by looking at what you get in the pack.

  • Spite Revenants x 5
  • Dryca Hamadreth
  • Branchwych

Plugging that into Battlescribe that gives us a total of 440 points, so a lot less than the Flesh Eaters.

So where would I go first, well looking at the warscolls in the Battletome, I would be tempted to start with The Outcasts Warscroll Battalion, which needs 3 units of Spite Revenants, so you need to go and buy two more boxes of them.

After this I would probably grab a Start Collecting Sylvaneth box and use the Treelord and Dryads from that to add to the army. And also grab the Endless Spells and use the Spiteswarm Hive from that.

So now your list should look like this:-

+ Leader [380pts] +

Branchwych [80pts]

Drycha Hamadreth [300pts]

+ Behemoth [180pts] +

Treelord [180pts]

+ Battleline [100pts] +

Dryads [100pts]: 10 Dryads [100pts]

+ Battalion [280pts] +

Battalion: Outcasts [280pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]

+ Malign Sorcery [50pts] +

Endless Spell: Spiteswarm Hive [50pts]

Going to 2000 points I would start by adding some Tree Revenants, so that you could form those, your Treelord and Branchwych into a Household Warscroll Battalion.

Then I would grab a second Start Collecting Box and use this to add two more units of Dryads and a second Branchwych so that I could add the Forest Folk Warscroll Battalion and a Treelord Ancient.

And lastly I would drop the Spiteswarm Hive and instead add a unit of Kurnoth Bunters with Kurnoth Greatbows for some ranged firepower’s.

So this is the list I would build for 2000 points.

+ Leader [560pts] +

Drycha Hamadreth [300pts]

Treelord Ancient [260pts]

+ Other [190pts] +

Kurnoth Hunters [190pts]: 3 Kurnoth Hunters [190pts], Kurnoth Greatbow

+ Battalion [1,240pts] +

Battalion: Forest Folk [520pts]
. Branchwraith [80pts]: 1. Throne of Vines
. Dryads [100pts]: 10 Dryads [100pts]
. Dryads [100pts]: 10 Dryads [100pts]
. Dryads [100pts]: 10 Dryads [100pts]

Battalion: Household [440pts]
. Branchwych [80pts]
. Tree-Revenants [80pts]: 5 Tree-Revenants [80pts], Glade Banner, Protector Glaive, Waypipes
. Treelord [180pts]

Battalion: Outcasts [280pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]
. Spite-Revenants [60pts]: 5 Spite-Revenants [60pts]

I am not gonna pretend I am a tactical genius here, this list is probably very sub-optimal, but it’s what I would do personally because I think this is a nice route to 2000 points.

I would also very much look at grabbing an Awakened Wyldwood, because it’s fantastic in game and will really add something to your army.

In terms of painting, I would point you towards the tutorial on YouTube by Duncan Rhodes when he was at Warhammer TV for Ylthari’s Guardians.

So let me know what you think of my ideas, and if you are gonna give them a try out, let me know how it goes!
