Our little holiday to Wales is over

It was

On the Sunday we chilled out, got some shopping in, played some games and ate soup

On Monday we visited the Welsh Mountain Zoo, and I got the see the Tigers feed which was really cool

Tuesday and Wednesdays were chill out day in which we just hung out played some games and chilled in the hot tub, and I did some painting.

Thursday was a hard day, the reason for this trip was that day

Our beloved friend Mary passed away four years ago, less than a year after her marriage to Paul, my meta.

On her deathbed she gave us money to take Paul on a trip to the railway in Wales where they were married and made us promise to get him a driver experience.

Paul loves trains and she felt that a driver experience where they got married on what would have been their 5th wedding anniversary would be a touching last gift

She was very right, it really was

But it was fucking hard, knowing that just giver years prior we had stood on that spot and helped her celebrate one of the happiest moments of her life

A few months later, she was diagnosed with a very aggressive small cell cervical cancer, she was gone in less than four months

The worst thing, she was the regional specialist radiologist for treating small cell cervical cancer for the NHS, so when she saw her scan results, she knew exactly what was going to happen and her treatment options were .

So yeah that was a hard hard day, but worth it for Paul

The Friday we chilled, went into the little village and had pasta for tea before leaving for home on Saturday where we all promptly fell asleep!

What I Am Modelling

For my holiday, the #HobbyStreak had to continue, so I took a bunch of late war Germans to paint, I did that because it meant that I could stick to a limited set of paints and tools, rather than needing to take a wider range of stuff to cover more varied stuff

I thought about taking the shops Chaos Warriors, but I didn’t feel comfortable taking stuff that wasn’t my property on holiday

I started out by painting a PaK 40 for the late war Germans

The PaK guns are a perfect example of the war of attrition with the early PaK 36 being unable to touch the armour of a Char B1 Bis or Matilda II, but the PaK 40 uses a gun more powerful that the tank based anti-tank gun of 1939 and the PaK 43 even having an 88mm gun

After that I painted a Sniper team from Cthonic Bear Cult

Also from Cthonic Bear, a Panzerschreck Team

And a Grenadier armed with an A SMG from 3DBreed

Then I painted up a Fallschirmjäger sample form my RKX, armed with an LMG

Followed by a Cthonic Bear Cult Light Mortar Team

And a Battle Cat Miniatures Forward Observer Team

And this group of Officers and Escorts from Cthonic Bear Cult

I then turned my attention to this 3D Breed MMG Team armed with a MG42

I then painted up a Goliath Team from Cthonic Bear Cult

Alongside a Pioneer’s officer

And a pair of officers from 3D Breed

Plus a Medium Mortar Team

With another MG42 MMG team, this time from Cthonic Bear Cult

Also from Crhonic Bear Cult, a trio of Grenadiers with Panzerfausts

And a 3D Breed Panzerschreck team

That was accompanied by a line Forward Observer/Spotter

Next up was an Officer built from the Warlords Grenadiers kit, armed with an StG 44 Assault Rifle

Alongside 6 grenadiers armed with a variety of weapons, these are a mix of models from Chtonic Bear Cult, 3D Breed and Warlord Games

And my final models painted for my time away were these 6 grenadiers, mostly Warlord ones with a single 3D Breed one in there

So what’s coming up next, well first off I really need to get the late war Germans finished along with some terrain for a project we have coming up, along with the store Old World Starter Set done

What Tabletop Games I Am Playing

We played a few whilst away starting with a game of Camel Up which Lindsay won

Then a game of Star: Trek Deep Space Nine Fluxx which was won by Megan

On Tuesday we played a game of Thunderbirds, where we managed to beat the game!

And a game of Wonderland Fluxx won by Megan

And a few rounds of A Fake Artist Goes to New York

We also played a game of Carcassonne, one of my favourite board games of all time and as per usual, Megan won!

And the final game played if the holiday was a game of Just One, in which as a group we only scored 6!

What I Am Backing

I have backed WOWBuildings Does Japans War, although the far east is not on my agenda at this time, it may one day be, I also actually got round to downloading WOWBuildings Does Tobruk

Beyond The Brush Miniature Painting: Book 1 Volume 1 was fully funded as was The Battle Kiwi S.T.A.C.K System

Division Mécanisée also fully funded for some more Cole War vehicles as did the oddly similar timed OPEX, it’s quite interesting how Cold War stuff is getting new models

I dipped my toe into Mini-Mice: The Kingdom for some cute minis to print, which has now delivered

The first batch of files from 3D Adventure Wear was delivered and I got the files from the Napoleonic French Old Guard Part 1 and Fields of War

Speaking of terrain, I am still backing Tunisia Terrain for the now deep in planning North Africa table

I am backing Charlie Country – Part 1 on behalf of a friend, Vietnam isn’t my thing personally, but who knows eh!

Also still backing Trench Druzhina, you know I can’t resist some unique Trench Crusade minis

The Military Vehicles of 1980’s Warsaw Pact got my attention, I am liking the idea more and more of some Cold War gone Hot gaming
