A Trip To Warhammer World

This past Thursday and Friday, myself and Megan made a trip to Warhammer World, whilst Lindsay went to work at her office behind it.

On a Thursday we settled in Bugmans Bar and played a few board games.

We started off with Combat Arena, which Megan convincingly won, I mean I didn’t stand a chance in it.

The we played Lost Patrol, switching sides between games, but needless to say the Scouts won neither game!

We then had lunch, but instead of playing Underworlds as planned we left and did the Hall of Minis which is always great, but the reason we did it early was because of an idiot making rape jokes on the table next to ours.

Sadly he was with a rather well know person in the hobby with a significant following so I am not naming him because I don’t need the blow back, but it’s sad to see that someone like that turns out to be an arse.

Anyway we had a great time in the hall of minis and then we finished off the day with a few games of Combat Cards back in Bugmans.

On Friday we had planned to play a 2000 point game of Death Guard vs Blood Angels, but Megan got a migraine so we couldn’t continue past turn two.

And thus we ended up spending the rest of the day in Bugmans.

Quite upset by that as I had been looking forward to this game for months, but she can’t help it.

We do plan to try playing the game again at Battle Bunker on Wednesday however.

What I am Modelling

I had a bit of a productive run before I headed off the Warhammer World, specifically I finished the last two characters from Combat Arena, Daedalosus and Aradia Madellan.

I also got my Army of the Dead for Middle Earth painted up, but the scheme was super simple, it was primed in Grey Seer, washed with Hexwraith Flame, metal was picked out with Coelia Greenshade and then a dry brush of Gauss Blaster Green.

But it works and I am rather happy with how they look.

Building wise I built the first of my Javelin Attack Speeders, which is so far a rather nice model to work with.

I have started work on some Custodes and hope to have these finished tomorrow.

What I am Reading

I started the week by reading the short story Down Amongst The Dead Men by Steve Lyons, which was ok, but I didn’t think that there was much payoff for the protagonist and the ending felt disconnected from the rest of the story.

I then read Left for Dead by Steve Lyons which was pretty good, an interesting look at the mind of a Death Korpsman, and I followed this up with The Strong Among Us, which was actually really enjoyable and a good look at how neither side in the 40k universe could be considered good guys.

And in my excitement about the Adepta Sororitas I am reading some stories about them, and I started off with Whispers by Alec Worley, which is really good and then I am about halfway through The Flesh Tithe by Miles A Drake and that’s so far pretty good, between these and a novel I read the other week, I may end up ordering some Necron Flayed Ones to paint.

What I am Playing

On Tuesday night we played a game of Mysterium at Megan’s parents, I was the ghost and sadly we lost, because I am rubbish at giving good clues.

What I am Backing

Nowt right now, but I will he backing Car Wars Sixth Editon in some form.

What I am Cooking

Again nowt, I simply am not capable right now 🙁

What I am Spending

I made one big purchase, the Sisters of Battle box, I managed to get my copy at 9:58 on Saturday morning, needless to say I am very happy with this.

A Very Very Brief Report of Blood and Glory

Not gonna have a big long recap of Blood and Glory, but I had a great time, amazing event, only let down really by a couple of slight things.

My games were all great even though I was tabled in 3 of them and lost 4, but two of the those games came down to dice rolls which gave them some drama, one was failing to take off a last hill point from a Land Raider and the other was a a failed charge into a Glaive, not saying if they had gone my way I would have won, but I would have stood a chance.

My opponents were all awesome dudes, and the guy I voted for as my favourite opponent won best traitor so that was really nice.

The Warhammer Studio Preview was good, even if there was nowt for Heresy, it lots of cool stuff regardless.

The negatives were that it was a little less well attended, but that I think comes down to tickets going on sale really late, I didn’t know what side I was on and thus struggled to get engaged with the narrative and my hotel room was right above the function room and was thus very noisy and they had to move me in the second night.

Overall Blood and Glory remains a highlight of my year as usual and I look forward to returning next year.

What I am Modelling

Productive week, I started off with finishing up a set of Death Korps of Krieg Lascannon Teams for Niki.

Then I did four characters for my Death Guard to take to Warhammer World to play with against Megan, these were Typhus, a Biologus Putrifier, Foul Blightspawn and a Deamon Prince of Nurgle.

Then I did a Plagueburst Crawler, which was a lot of fun to paint.

This was then followed by a set of 10 Poxwalkers, which I did mostly with Contrast to see how they would suit that method, they suit it fine and I think this is how I will do the rest of my Poxwalkers, I have another 36 of these to paint after all.

I also did the Alchomite Stack I got with Warhammer 40,000 Conquest.

Then I finished the last model for the Death Guard I am taking ti Nottingham, a humble Rhino.

And to finish of the week, a Death Korps of Krieg Command HQ Squad for Niki.

On the desk now I have my Army of the Dead for Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game, which is 20 Warriors of the Dead, 2 Riders of the Dead, 2 Heralds of the Dead and the King of the Dead. These are painted, the bases just need painting.

And I have Daedalosus from Combat Arena on a painting handle with all his base colours done and the first wash on him.

What I am Reading

I finished off Legends of the Dark Millennium: Ultramarines and then moved on to Dead Men Walking by Steve Lyons, which was an amazing book that I managed to finish in two nights.

Was a shame that two of the characters didn’t reunite, but the ending was pretty much what I expected, but it took a good way of getting there.

Think I might read the other Death Korps of Krieg short stories now.

I listened to The Watcher In The Rain which was a really good audio drama which a nice little twist at the end.

What I am Playing

Since last I write I had a game of Moon-Bots where I introduced Lindsay to it, and I was eliminated first, because Lindsay and Megan love to gang up on me.

I also had a quick game of Dice Academy, which I won, but it was more about showing the game to Megan and Lindsay.

What I am Backing

I did end up pulling out of Council of Verona, but it was cancelled about an hour after I did so. Not that surprised as it was looking very unlikely to fund, the art and shipping costs were huge issues.

I did get the first part of Munchkin Pathfinder 3 in the post, that is the Munchkin Pathfinder Hero Pack, hopefully the rest will get to me next month.

I have got confirmation that four projects are now with the UK fulfilment partner, sadly all these projects are with Games Quest, so heavens knows when they will get sent.

What I am Cooking

I managed to cook some chips!

What I am Spending

I am keeping spending low, but I have purchased the Horus Heresy Reusable Mug, which is nice but the insulating rubber is a bit poor.

I also purchased the Citadel Red Painting Handle and the Citadel Spray Stick as I am a sucker for new tools.

Goodbye Sweep

16 years ago when me and Lindsay were moving in together we decided to get a cat, and that cat was Misty, she was a pedigree, but we were offered her without papers as her mother had proven to be not so great.

After her litter, she has become aggressive and hard to handle, and her owners were going to have her put down, so of course we said we would take her, she was called Sweep and for five weeks she was a miserable cow, hiding, and if we went near her growling and hissing.

But one morning on my way to work, I got a call from Lindsay, she had crawled into bed with her, was hugging her and purring her head off.

And since that moment, Sweep and Lindsay were inseparable, I honestly sometime thought that Sweep was Lindsay true soulmate they were that close.

My relationship with Sweep was never the best, she once leapt at my face clawing me badly and leaving me bleeding on the ground, and she would randomly walk up to me purring her head off and just biting me.

But she was a great cat for Lindsay, she would follow her around, cuddle up to her and they were a cute couple.

The other cats hated her as she would randomly chase them around, Cookie was twice her size and she had him terrified of her.

But the past few months she really slowed down and she started to lose some weight, we were having to feed her smaller portions of food less often, because if she ate too much it made her sick.

We came to the realisation that at 18 1/2 she was coming to the end of her life and we took her to the PDSA to make a plan for her and figure out the best way to make her comfortable in her last days.

When she was examined, they found a tumour, she had a form of lymphoma which was terminal, and the reason she had lost most of the weight, we were all upset, but the vet reassured us that this would have been easy to miss and that we had done our best for her.

So we took her away with some steroids to help her gain weight, and a plan to make her last couple of months good.

Sadly whilst I was at Blood and Glory, she stopped eating altogether, and had gotten very weak as a result. Lindsay and Megan made the call to take her back to the PDSA where together with the vet, it was decided that it was her time to go.

She went peacefully, being kissed and cuddled by Lindsay, and we are all upset by her passing, but it was the right call and the best thing for her.

I am upset because I assumed I would come back to her, in her old age she had come to tolerate me, and she even let me stroke her without biting me.

She may have been a grouchy girl, but she loved Lindsay and made her so happy, I will miss her, she had this cute little chirp when she was in Lindsay Company.

Goodby Sweep and sleep well.

What I am Modelling

I managed to finish off the Plague Marine squad, quite happy with these.

I have been working on a couple of things for Niki’s Death Korps of Krieg, but they aren’t quite finished. A trio of Lascannon Teams are just waiting for their bases to dry and a Command HQ Squad is coming along nicely.

I lost a couple days painting due to exhaustion, but am getting back there.

Will probably be concentrating a bit of Death Guard for my trip to Warhammer World next week now and have put some models on the painting handles that I need done, specifically a Deamon Prince, Typhus, a Biologus Putrifier and a Foul Blightspawn.

What I am Reading

Still working on Legends of the Dark Millennium: Ultramarines, which I am 67% of the way though.

What I am Playing

Last week I went to the awesome Meeple Perk with Megan and we played a few games, we played Dice Forge, two games of Luchador and Castellan.

Then I was at Blood and Glory, but I will talk about that in a post I will put up later on.

And finally tonight we played a four player game of Moon-Bots as we introduced Lindsay to it.

What I am Backing

I am heavily reconsidering Council of Verona, the shipping to Europe is $25 which is more than the game costs, so I have reduced my pledge to $1 and will wait and see what the crack is and if they can bring that down at all.

I have dropped my pledge for Zombicide, I just couldn’t justify the cost for the Nostalgia Pack for what you got.

I got back home and checked over the arrived Kickstarter’s.

Ember was all there and it’s really nice, and I put everything for it into the wooden storage box. The box is a little less solid than I hoped, but that’s fine, it was reasonably priced and it does the job I want it to do.

Alhambra is sadly missing a few bits, so I have emailed Queen Games to let them know, thankfully they are all for one module, but I have absolutely everything else.

The plastic inner tray is rather thin and I am not sure it would hold up against rough treatment, and I am a little frustrated that the wooden fountain starter tiles don’t have a dedicated home in the box, but other than that it seems good.

When I got home from Blood and Glory, I returned home to Brexit:- The Real Deal, which looks really good.

What I am Cooking

Not a sausage, I just can’t manage anything right now.

What I am Spending

I did buy Severina Raine with my birthday vouchers from Megan’s parents, wanted her for some time but kept getting distracted by other stuff, but since reading Honourbound I needed to buy her pronto!

She will be part of my Millitarum Tempestus force, they are Kapic Eagles, not Duskhounds, but she will look good with them none the less.

I also picked up a set of 32mm Necromunda Bases, a Red Painting Handle, Horus Heresy Bamboo Cup and a Spray Stick, and at Blood and Glory I got a Warhammer Community Dice Tray.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf Review

This is a version of Werewolf in which everything happens over a single night, if you are unfamiliar with Werewolf, then I guess I had better explain it!

Werewolf was originally called Mafia and was created by a Russian dude, Dmitry Davidoff in the late 1980s. In it people are assigned a role in secret and the game them works in two phases, the night phase in which people carry out their roles in secret, and a day phase in which people attempt to root out the werewolves in their midst.

In normal Werewolf, to win, the Villagers must rid the village of all evil doers, whilst the Werewolves must reach parity with the villagers.

There are lots of different roles which can change up how the game works, for example Tanners, whose win conditions is to be killed.

This version was originally designed as One Night Werewolf by Akihisa Okui and further developed by Ted Alspach and is published by Bézier Games.

The Jist

So in One Night Ultimate Werewolf, it strips it right down and does everything in one night phase and one day phase, with the villagers needing to kill a werewolf and the werewolves needing to kill a villager.

You are randomly given a card, which has 1 of 12 different roles on it, but what I am going to do here is tell you about the roles used for a standard 3 player starter game.

In this you will create a deck of 2 Werewolves, 1 Seer, 1 Robber, 1 Troublemaker and 1 Villager, you then hand a card out to each player, who looks at it, and then places it face down on the table. The remaining three cards are placed in the centre of the table.

Players then close their eyes, and an announcer reads out what happens, but you won’t need an extra player for that, as Bézier Games have developed an app which does it all for you.

The Werewolves will then wake up and look for each other, they then close their eyes and the Seer wakes up and can either look at a players card, or two of the centre cards, they then close their eyes.

The Robber then wakes up and can then exchange their role with another players role and view the card, they then close their eyes. At this point the Troublemaker wakes up, and then exchanges cards between two players.

Then everyone wakes up and you try and figure out between you, who are the Werewolves and therefore who should die.

There are other roles, for example the Drunk who wakes up and swaps their card for one of the centre cards, but doesn’t look at their new role.

You have five minutes to debate between yourselves who are the Werewolves and who must die, after which you all point at the player you wish to kill after a countdown.

Components

In the box you get 16 cards for the various roles, plus 16 chits for each role along with a rule book.

The cards and chits are punchboard as opposed to simple game cards, and so are very durable, we have had our copy since not long after publication five years ago, and it’s seen a lot of play, sure now some of the cards are showing a little wear and tear, but they still hold up pretty well.

The App obviously isn’t in the box, but I can’t mention components without talking about it, it’s great and means that your group doesn’t need an extra person to be the announcer which means everyone can play, and that is brilliant. You load it up, select what roles you are using and set it away, simple but brilliant.

And all of this fits in a super small box so it’s highly portable.

Look

The art is really fun, it’s not as serious as other Werewolf games and is in a cartoon style by Gus Batt, great artwork and suits the more simplistic, fun version of Werewolf this is.

What’s Good

I love this game, it’s a real favourite of mine, I love a good hidden identity game and this really ticks a lot of boxes for me.

It really gets your heart beating and the way you have to navigate the social dynamics of whatever group you are with adds a new twist to every game.

It’s wonderful to see a group think they have secured victory, only to have it snatched away from them by a sneaky werewolf who convinced them that they were an innocent villager.

What’s Bad

Werewolf had a lot of different roles for it, if you put a gun to my head and made me say something bad about this game, it would be that in order to get a bigger Werewolf experience, you need to add expansions, I mean I personally think Daybreak is an essential.

Final Score

I love this game, it’s one I can pull out again and again and again.

I love to play a full game of Werewolf, but this comes pretty close to that.

I give this game a solid 7.5 out of 10

I will not lie I have looked at other reviews to get an idea of how to write this, I am no pro, but there is a possibility that I may have been influenced by reading them and some stuff may have filtered through to this review.

If you do spot anything that could be seen as heavily influenced by what someone else has said, let me know and I will be sure to credit and link them.

A Week Down South

This week, upon getting home, I set back out again on my travels and went to visit Megan’s nana with her and her parents.

She lives in a lovely little village and Megan has been showing me all the sites she loves in this rather picturesque little village, it’s no Sudbury, but it’s alright.

The Tuesday we got here I just chilled out and relaxed, we had a short walk round the village then I took a nap and we played a couple of games.

On Wednesday, we went to RHS Garden Wisley, where we met up with my sister Ashleigh and her children Freddie and Edith, Freddie should have been at school, but he was off as he had head lice! Ashleigh has gone seven years without them and gets them the morning we go down, but to be honest it was nice to see Freddie.

Wisley was lovely and the kids were great, Edith is so much bouncier and outgoing than she was the last time I saw her, and Freddie has grown up a lot. I don’t see my nephews and nieces other than Janes enough, and I really want to see them more.

Thursday we just stayed in the house, I did a little painting, but not much, the house is so very very hot!

On Friday we went into Oxford and I visited the Pitt Rivers Museum for the first time, truly fascinating place that I wish I could have spent more time in, but my dyspraxia was really bad and I kept falling over.

We then took in a bite to eat at Burger King and popped into Games Workshop Oxford to add to my tally of GW stores visited in the UK.

And then we returned to Pats and had a lovely dinner of cottage pie followed by apple crumble and then a trip to the pub for a quick drink.

Saturday saw us pop to Megan’s aunts where we met her, Megan’s cousin and her two children, and that was really nice, safe to say that Megan has some really nice family in this part of the world.

And thus Sunday sees us taking the journey home back to the north east.

What I am Modelling

I wanted to do a bit of painting down here and ambitiously picked out a few projects.

But Pat keeps her house very hot, at times the temperature in here exceeded 32 degrees, thus I was unable to paint in most of my spare time, and I certainly couldn’t paint the Death Korps, because the only spot I had to paint was right by a radiator and that part was utterly boiling, and no way was I working with resin there.

All I was able to do was put a few base colours on a squad of Plague Marines, not much else sadly.

What I am Reading

I was plodding on with The Lost and the Dammed for most of the week, mostly reading it in bed and I managed to get it finished, a great book, not quite as good as The Solar War but brilliant none the less, really like the way we got the perspective of the conscript and meet some characters we are already familiar with such as Captain Thane.

I have now moved onto Legends of the Dark Millennium: Ultramarines, which so far isn’t a bad book, but I am on the first story in it and only 18% through it.

What I am Playing

On Tuesday we played a few games, we stared out with Moon-Bots, which I think is an absolutely delightful little game, and Megan’s mum managed to win that one. Then we played a couple of rounds of Dice Academy, both of which were won by Megan, and finally we played Who Did It?, with me and Megan drawing.

On Wednesday night we played Dixit and Megan romped to victory, I really wanted to not let her win, because I knew what her card was and Jane didn’t, so I could have denied her victory for another turn, instead I chanced that Jane may have picked the right card denying Megan the points, but alas she didn’t and I ended up 4 points behind Megan.

On Thursday morning I taught Megan to play Keyforge, she absolutely kicked my bottom, she picked it up very quickly and whilst I went easy on her, she had no such restraint when dealing with me, not saying I would have won had I played tougher, but maybe it might have been closer!

Saturday morning, me and Megan whipped out Carcassonne and had a game with the base game, Abbot, River, Japanese Buildings, Labyrinth and Spiel Doch mini expansions plus all the Spiel tiles for the 2nd Edition apart from the 2019 one.

Of course as per normal she beat me soundly and scored 182 points to my 136 points!

That evening we played two games of Thunderbirds, the first one we lost in about five minutes, we rolled so many double Hoods!

The second one we won and were quite under control with everything never letting anything get out of hand, so that was a good game.

And me and Megan finished it off with a game of Anatomy Fluxx which Megan won at.

What I am Backing

Council of Verona 3rd Edition went up this week and at first I was reluctant as I have the 2nd edition, but the low price point dragged me in, it’s a great game and for the price, it’s really good.

Still backing Zombicide 2nd Edition, but finally a few things arrived, but not being at home I won’t see them until tonight.

Firstly, Dungeon Fantasy Magic Items 2 – Powered by GURPS arrived, this was sent to me by the ever amazing Helen, a friend who now lives in Texas, she wonderfully took it in for me, but I really need to get her box of sweets sent out to her soon! Was weird that I managed to get this quicker than Monsters 2 which is being sent directly to me.

Secondly, the Alhambra Designers Edition Mega Box arrived along with the Alhambra Special Edition Big Box, seems to be a common thing that some stickers are missing, so I will have to check that properly when I get home.

And lastly, my copy of Ember Trick or Treat and it’s wooden box arrived too.

Currently I am expecting five, possibly six projects to fulfil in the rest of the year, four of them are on their way to the UK right now, another has just exited manufacturing in Germany and the sixth is coming via the US, that being the only one which might not get to me before the end of 2019.

What I am Cooking

I haven’t cooked anything, but where I can, I am helping with drying dishes, not a lot because of pain, but I am trying.

What I am Spending

As little as possible, I have Blood and Glory next weekend, but I did treat myself to The Grymwatch for Underworlds from the Tottenham Court Road Warhammer store when I visited there on Monday.

In preparation for Star Wars Episode IX I finally got around to buying Episode VIII by getting it from the Sky Store where we had a welcome offer from our upgrade to Sky Q, plus £5.99 credit from some sweet packets from last years so the Blu-Ray and digital version cost me just £7.

When I visited the Oxford Warhammer store, I picked up a little present for Lindsay, and myself The Grymwatch Dice Pack, I have bought all of the dice for Underworlds so far, I don’t feel like I am able to stop at this point!

I also picked up a couple of bits for Christmas for my nephews and nieces.

Feeling Much Better

This weekend I was at EGX showing video gamers how to play some brilliant tabletop games with Asmodee.

I am currently headed to the Tottenham Court Road Warhammer store to kill some time before I head off home.

I took the train down on Wednesday and stayed overnight in a hostel near Kings Cross, but annoyingly despite telling them well in advance that I needed a bottom bunk I was assigned a top bunk, which gave me a lot of pain trying to get in and out.

Because of the Extinction Rebellion protests I planned to give myself loads of time to get to the ExCeL, but that was barely enough time as I got caught up in two different actions, one in which some people chained themselves across a bus lane, and another where someone go on top on a tube. I wasn’t present for the last one, but it caused huge delays on the line.

I just got to ExCeL on time to finish helping set up our demo area, and get myself together for the 10am opening.

Overall the weekend was brilliant and I learnt a number of new games including Moon-Bots, Plague Inc, Don’t Mess with Cthulhu, and Keyforge, so quite happy with that.

The only downside was that Thursday night I was quite ill, and spent a couple of hours throwing up, but was only 30 minutes late for the show due to sleeping in as a result.

Great experience, and a great weekend, and I can’t wait for my next big event!

In this next week I am headed to Megan’s nanas for a bit via home, and will be visiting my sister in Woking on Wednesday.

What I am Modelling

Last week I didn’t do any modelling at all other than to prime some stuff to take away with me to Megan’s Anna’s, specifically a Death Korps of Krieg Infantry Squad and Command Squad.

What I am Reading

Making slow progress through The Lost and the Dammed, I have just been so tired at night it’s hard to read, currently I am 21% of the way through the book.

What I am Playing

I have played a lot this weekend, showing people how to play some great games, but standouts for me are Keyforge, which as a game I really enjoy, and think I am hooked.

I also helped a visually impaired guy play Ticket to Ride and Pandemic, both of which were very rewarding experiences and has made me think about what kind of games could be good for visually impaired people.

What I am Backing

I am in for the Zombicide 2nd Editon Nostalgia pledge right now, but I am humming and barring about it.

My Ember package still hasn’t arrived but apparently there have been issues at the post office, so hopefully soon.

Alhambra was meant to be delivered Saturday but no one was in, so it’s been rearranged to Tuesday, but I am nervous because apparently the stickers needed for a dice are missing from all pledges.

What I am Cooking

I have been away so no cooking for me!

What I am Spending

Other than food needed to survive whilst away, I have bought a couple of games, specifically the Keyforge Age of Ascension Starter Set, I know it’s soon to be replaced with Worlds Collide, but it was going for £20 which is an absolute bargain, and I picked up Moon-Bots because it’s a great game and I am pretty sure Megan and Lindsay will love it.

I didn’t buy these but was given by Asmodee for demoing purposes, Who Did It?, Dice Academy and Dobble.

DnDice also gave us Asmodee lot a rectangular dice tray, the ones that they had been using to show people how good they are, I got one in Dryad Green.

A Troubling Weekend

My weekend was, well it was troubling, basically I ended up in a situation which was out of my control and it was extremely uncomfortable.

I will do a post of it when I get back from holiday, but needless to say as a result I have left certain Facebook groups and found myself quite upset at the lengths some people will go to, in order to defend certain repugnant people.

I would like to thank my colleagues who rallied together and dealt with the unpleasantness in the best way we could.

The photo for this blog post is Megan’s cat Cookie, who has done his best to keep my spirits up.

What I am Modelling

I did get a few things cleared from the pile, firstly I finished off the two remaining members of my Ultramarines Sky Hunters Squad.

Then I did some little pieces for Adeptus Titanicus, the Warp Missile Rack and Vulcan Mega Bolter for the Reavers and a Macro Gattling Blaster for the Warlord.

And finally I painted my first Custodes, a Shield Captain for the Adeptus Terra Zone Mortalis Challenge.

Whilst I am away I am taking with me for the Death Korps of Krieg I am painting for Nikki, an Infantry Squad, Lascannon Teams and Command Squad, plus some Plague Marines from Dark Imperium and the two Lords of Contagion.

What I am Reading

I finished all of the Severina Raine stuff and it’s amazing, very disappointed that Honourbound isn’t getting an audio adaptation but in general it’s a great book.

Rachel has built up a rich background for the Antari Rifles, they are a really interesting group of characters, and I will admit to be being tempted to build an army based on them.

Now onto Lost and the Dammned!

What I am Playing

I played a lot at the event that I hated!

Few games of Catan which are always a lot of fun, plus lots of Dobble and Cobra Paw.

I learned to play Brainbox, Concept Kids Animals, Bad Bones, Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, Dice Academy and I sort of learned Who Did It?

And on Monday, I got Megan, Lindsay and Paul to sit down with me and play Game 1 of Hogwarts Battle, which as a game, I love!

What I am Backing

Lindsay is backing Calico still and I have put in for the Zombicide 2nd Edition upgrade kit, although I am confused as to if it comes with the rule book or not.

I have finally gotten a tracking number the Alhambra Designers Edition Mega Box, took me basically emailing and commenting every day to remind them that us Brits are on a ticking clock as far as getting stuff goes due to Brexit, so hopefully I will have that to review soon.

I am still awaiting delivery of Ember, no sign of it so far.

What I am Cooking

Just some Sausages this morning, they were burnt.

What I am Spending

I bought a new t-shirt from Genki Gear that I quite like, but that’s it.

Plagueburst Crawler: 2x Plaguespitter, Heavy slugger

Those in italics are already painted, so that gives me a list to paint of

  • Deamon Prince of Nurgle
  • Typhus
  • Plague Marines x 7
  • Poxwalkers x 10
  • Blightlord Terminators x 5
  • Foetid Bloat Dtobe
  • Plagueburst Crawler

But I do want to crack on with Niki’s Death Korps of Keieg, so in that same period I also want to do as a minimum.

  • Infantry Squad x 10
  • Infantry Squad x 10
  • Commissar x 2
  • Command HQ Squad
  • Lascannon Team x 3

Now I am away from home for 13 out of 32 days, so that’s a lot of time eaten up, but for 7 of those days I will be taking a hobby box with me, so I can work on a couple of bits whilst I am away, probably the DKK Infantry Squads and the Plague Marines.

But this is my plan for the next couple of weeks, so here is hoping I can stick to it!

A Busy Month Ahead

October is going to be a very busy month for me, with not a single weekend at home!

The past weekend I was away on holiday in Cumbria which was really nice, we stayed in a barn conversion with a hot tub not too far from Aspatria.

Was lovely, we played some games had some nice food and an all round good time with Lindsay, Megan and Megan’s parents Jane and Geoff.

This coming weekend, I am off to Edinburgh to help out at Comic Con Scotland and then the weekend afterwards I will be in London at EGX

But from there I will be going to Oxfordshire to spend a week with Megan and her parents at her nanny’s, which will fingers crossed, allow me to fit in a trip to see my sister and her beautiful children in Woking.

And then the weekend after that, I am at Blood and Glory in Derby, so the last time I was actually home for the weekend was the 21st September and I won’t be again until 9th October!

What I am Modelling

I haven’t done much but I have finished off the Chaos Cultists I got with Warhammer 40,000 Conquest. These were an interesting set of guys to paint, their primary role will be for my Death Guard army, but they will see service in Heresy.

Anyway colour wise I wanted some dark dirty leather, so the coats are painted that way, but other fabrics I have looked at other things I have done and want to do for influence, for example, I know the scheme I want to do for my Traitor Guard from Blackstone Fortress, so the trousers are all done that way and the uniform colour I plan to do for some tops. I also wanted to give the impression that these came from the same group of people who eventually became Poxwalkers, so again elements of the fabrics used there have been used.

And as they are working with the Death Guard, the cowls are in the purple and pink fabrics normally associated with the Legion and the few armour panels are done in Death Guard Green.

I am currently working on a few things to try and finish before I go away Friday, those being the Ultramarines Scimitar Jetbikes I need for Blood and Glory, for which I have given the Sgt a Power Fist.

I am also doing a few bits for Titanicus, a Macro Gatling Cannon for the Warlords and a Vulcan Mega Bolter and Warp Missile Rack for the Reavers.

Plus I have a Shield Captain on my desk who has his armour done, and I have now started on the rest of him.

What I am Reading

I finished Legends of the Dark Millennium: The Tau Empire, and overall I enjoyed it, the stories were pretty good and gave me a good insight into the T’au and plenty of influences for my army of them.

I then started on the Severina Raine series by Rachel Harrison, working my way through the shorts Execution, A Company of Shadows, Fire and Thunder and then Trials before moving into Honourbound.

Regardless I am now hooked and need to own her model!

I have also been listening to Ghoulslayer by Darius Hinks and that so far is really good, ok so Jonathan Keeble isn’t quite Brian Blessed, but he does do a pretty good job of it.

What I am Playing

I played quite a bit this past weekend, not as much as I would have liked, but a bit.

We started with Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 which was won by Megan, and it makes me crack up every time, such a good version of the game.

Then we moved on to a few rounds of Bananagrams before a game of Star Trek Fluxx and Love Letter.

We then finished up the night with a couple of games of One Night Ultimate Vampire and Catch the Moon.

On Sunday we played Port Royal which is always a favourite of mine, then Patchwork Doodle which I love, and finally a nice game of Thunderbirds.

I really wanted to play more, but we just didn’t get to do so, but hopefully we will play more games soon.

What I am Backing

I am not backing anything, but Lindsay is backing Calico which looks pretty good, the only concern we have is what will shipping costs and customs charges be like post Brexit.

I am expecting the Alhambra Designer’s Edition Mega Box at some point soon, but the shipping date for that keeps creeping backwards which has got me worried that I might end up with a hefty customs bill if it hits the UK after the 31st.

And I am also expecting Ember Trick or Treat which has had a torrid time in development and is now over a year late, but that can’t be helped, my order turned out to be a complex tone so I will be amongst the last to get my copy.

What I am Cooking

Does a Pot Noodle count?

What I am Spending

During my visit to Carlisle, I did pop into Warhammer, where I got chatting to one of the staff members who is a huge Adepta Sororitas fan, and like me his favourite is the Order or the Ardent Shroud.

Anyway, it just so happened that someone had returned Amalia Novena and well, I ended up walking out with her, and I plan on using her as a Canoness.

Still Recovering

I am still recovering from Company of Legends, so expect a fuller report on that soon, in the meantime, I am recovering on holiday for my birthday in Cumbria.

What I am Modelling

Well it’s been a while so I have gotten a bit done, I started up with finishing off the Manufactorum, Adminstratium and Ruins for Sector Slytherin.

Then I did two sets of Sector Sanctoris Ruins fir Sector Slytherin.

I also took a day and quickly painted up the Sector Mechanicus Killzone that came with the new Kill Team Starter Set.

Myself and Megan then finished two of the Imperial Sector buildings and I did some Imperial Objectives from Urban Conquest to go with them.

I also painted up Andrew Newtons Sector Munitorium Killzone and the last Imperial Sector Building.

And finally I painted up a single Scimitar Jetbike for my Ultramarines.

Since Company of Legends I have gone a bit butterfly like, I have built and primed, two more Scimitar Jetbikes, the Reaver Mega Bolter and Warp Missile Rack, Acastus Knights and Warlord Macro Gatling Cannon for Adeptus Titanicus and some Scouts and a Lieutenant in Phobos Armour for my Blood Ravens.

I have also built 20 Warriors of the Dead and The Three Hunters for Middle Earth SBG.

I am currently painting 10 Chaos Cultists I got with Conquest and hope to have them finished off probably Monday night or early Tuesday when I get back from holiday.

What I am Reading

I am currently reading Legends of the Dark Millenium: The Tau Empire, which is very interesting, I have already read some of the stories, but there are others I haven’t read and thus far I am enjoying them.

I am 90% thorough the book so far, and it’s really giving me a taste for the T’au.

What I am Playing

Since last I blogged I have played a few games of One Night Ultimate Werewolf and Blank, reviews of which are currently being written.

My birthday weekend trip has seen us take a lot of games away with us to play so will have a lot more to report on next time!

What I am Backing

I backed project 100, which was the CMON Time Machine, from which I am hoping to get a few figures for Zombicide to complete my Big Bang Theory characters. If I don’t, it was only $1 and I get some soundtracks and art books.

I have a few which are due to deliver soon so hopefully I will be able to talk about them soon.

What I am Cooking

I finally was capable of cooking and I made breakfast pizza, it was really simple and all I did was take store bought pizza bases, make my own tomato sauce with passata. Italian herbs and garlic granules, put on the base, mushrooms, bacon and cooked sausage with cheese and cook it for a little bit.

I want to try it again but add some hash browns and scrambled egg and throw on some black pudding to Lindsays.

What I am Spending

It’s been a few weeks and I got paid so probably too much, plus I have been treating myself a bit for my birthday!

I bought myself some datacards for Chaos Space Marines and Space Marines and a Primaris Lieutenant in Phobos Armour.

I have been finally convinced by Phil and James to give the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game a go and have decided to do the Dead of Dunharrow, so I picked up a box of Warriors of the Dead, a couple of Riders of the Dead and the King of the Dead and Heralds, plus the Three Hunters and in Travelling Man, I found the dice for The Three Hunters. I had ordered the dice for the Dead, but the order was cancelled as Games Workshop has oversold them.

For a birthday treat I bought myself Beastgrave plus the counter sheet and the dice for Skaeth’s Wild Hunt and Grashrak’s Despoilers.

And I found a copy of Conquest with the Scouts in it, so I bought them to add some more to my Blood Ravens.
