February Resolutions Update

It’s the end of the month so figured I should do a resolutions update.

I will have a more full blog post coming soon.

Paint 867 Models – 24.45% Complete

Making very steady progress on this one, mostly due to a Chainrasp Horde of 40 models!

Can’t believe I am already almost a quarter of the way there!

Finish the Blood Ravens that I own on 1st January – 25.64% Complete

I got some Bikes and an Attack Bike done this month along with a squad of Reivers and a Phobos Captain, so I feel like this is nicely plodding along.

Finish the Death Guard – 63.64% Complete

This looks as if it’s made a lot less progress but that’s because this month I added stuff to the list, specifically the Chaos Spawn and Tallyman I mentioned last month, oh and I also bought Mortarion!

I did this month paint the old Forge World Plague Marine upgrade kit, and the Chaos Spawn.

Paint Mortarion for Everchosen

As I said above, I have purchased Mortarion so it’s gonna happen!

Complete 2000 Points of Stormcast Eternals

The past few weeks have seen me hit a bit of a painting slump, but I am working on three easy to build Sequitors, so something is happening here!

Other Resolutions

  • Complete 1750 Points of T’au
  • Complete 1750 Points of Orks
  • Rebase Blood Ravens Tactical Marines
  • Rebase Orks

None of these have been touched yet, but I am making plans to start rebasing the Blood Ravens this month.

Feeling Rough

I am feeling a bit rough, had a horrid few weeks waiting for something that happened this week finally.

Got to wait for the outcome but just hoping I can get myself sorted and back to normal as it’s left me struggling to sleep.

What I Am Modelling

The hands have been better this week so it’s back to painting.

First up, here is the Aragorn I finished last week, I managed to get a better photo of him.

I then finished up my Mourngul for the Nighthaunt, my very first unit for this army and I love it. Decided to go with a spectral colour scheme to fit in with the rest of the army.

The I turned my attention to a Death Guard Heavy Support Squad armed with Autocannons.

I got the bodies from Phil, I just bought some arms from eBay and the Autocannons from Forge World and raided my bitz box for heads.

And then I painted up some Space Marine Bikes and an Attack Bike for the Blood Ravens, these came from Conquest and I have another batch of these to come still.

Once they were done, I turned my attention to some Death Guard Plague Marines built from the old Chaos Space Marines kit and the now out of print Plague Marine upgrade kit from Forge World, along with a few bits from the multipart Plague Marines kit.

This gave me a Champion armed with Plasma Pistol and Plague Sword, an Icon Bearer and 8 Bolter armed Plague Marines.

At the same time I was working in the crew for Niki’s Centaurs and got them finished shortly afterwards.

So this is how my painting plan looks now, I have got the Chainrasp Horde primed and the Death Korps of Krieg stuff is on the painting handles.

  1. Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue and Ride Master
  2. Chainrasp Horde x 40
  3. Blood Ravens Captains x 5
  4. Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad Special Weapons Men x 12
  5. Warcry Terrain
  6. Myrmourn Banshees x 12
  7. Blood Ravens Bikes x 3 and Attack Bike with Multi-Melta
  8. Chainrasp Horde x 40
  9. Canoness Veridyan
  10. Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad Special Weapons Men x 12

What I Am Reading

I finally finished reading Celestine The Living Saint last night, and I really enjoyed it, ended up staying up until 3am to finish it, just need to pick something my else to read, might read Mark of Faith next.

I also listened to The Geld, which was really good before moving on to The Solar War, because weirdly I hadn’t listened to that yet, and I got through that pretty quickly and am now onto The Lost and the Damned.

What I Am Playing

On Sunday night we played Melee for the first time, and I got my bottom kicked by Megan who captured my castle very easily!

And on Tuesday three years after I got it for Megan for her birthday, we finally played Codenames with Megan’s mum, I teamed up with her and we won one game, and lost one game against Lindsay and Megan.

What I Am Backing

The Rival Networks has successfully funded and I am very happy with that, love the main game and I am sure I will love a two player version of it.

Justice Blocks has 11 hours left at time of writing and its only at 15%, I know it won’t fund but I love the idea of it.

And finally I am backing Broken because it’s hilarious!

What I Am Cooking

I need to cook something again, it’s just so much effort these days given the brain injury and hand pain.

What I Am Spending

I stocked up on paint, grabbed a couple of 40k Chibis one of which was the Sister I’d Battle which is fantastic, and I also bought the Legio Ignatium transfer sheet, two of them, but they went out of stock so I am super happy I bought them on pre-order day!

I also bought the dice for the two new Beastgrave warbands.

A Trip For Graham’s Birthday

Last weekend I took a trip to Nottingham to help Graham celebrate his 50th birthday in style!

We tented a house to base ourselves at for the weekend and myself and Graham travelled down on Friday, meeting up with his Chris and their other brother Dave and on Saturday we were joined by our mate Rob.

We had hoped that Richie and Gareth would be able to join us, but the stars did not align for that.

We had planned to do Warhammer World all weekend, but we didn’t realise the weekend was the 40k GT, and thus we couldn’t book a table for Saturday, only Sunday.

So on Saturday we went to Boards and Swords in Derby and we played a 9000 point game, me and Graham with my Word Bearers and how World Eaters and Solar Auxilia against Dave, Chris and Rob who had a force of Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Custodes between them.

I took the Mastodon, which to form, did not last past turn 2 and most of the Terminators it carried were killed, and Lorgar came along to summon Deamons.

But me and Graham had our arses handed to us as my dice rolling was atrocious, I just kept on rolling 1s like John Dermondy!

At one point when I rolled a pair of 1s then rerolled them to get the same result again when I needed just a single 2+, Graham just looked at me and said:-

Why do I fucking bother

He was right, my game was horrific, but somehow we managed to draw!

That night we had curry did some recording and I attempted to play Blackstone Fortress but I was knackered and couldn’t concentrate to I gave up and went to bed.

The next day we went to Warhammer world and played a 5000 points a side game, it went mostly the same way, but this time the loyalists knew our strengths better and hit them hard.

Lorgar was taken with Divination instead of Deamonology, and turned out to be pretty darn good, and almost killed Sanguinius, but alas he fell.

Interestingly we had a good time figuring out if Lorgar could take Deamonology, turns out the rule that says he can is in the generic Librarian rules and not in his rules!

It’s gonna be just over six weeks until I see all the guys again, apart from Dave who I won’t see until September. I like these guys, they are my closest friends and spending time with them is a real treat.

Thanks Graham for an amazing weekend of fun!

What I Am Modelling

The hands have been an issue this week so painting hasn’t been happening as much as would have liked, so I have been content to model instead.

I have this week built a Predator, Mourngal, 40 Chainrasps, 12 Myrmourn Banshees, 10 Ultramarines Seekers, 10 Death Guard Heavy Support Marines and some Easy to Build Sequitors.

I managed to get all of those primed and ready to hit the table along with some nurglings.

I spent the week slowly painting up the squad of Blood Ravens Reivers, and as many of you will know I really dislike painting Reivers and Phobos Amour in general, and to get all of the Phobos Armour out of the way, I also painted my Captain in Phobos Armour too.

I managed to get those finished on Friday afternoon.

I also did a bit of a speed painting job on some Nurglings, painted the all with Contrast and I am pretty happy with how these turned out.

And then I started work on The Three Hunters and finished off Legolas and Aragorn, but my photo of Aragorn is at a terrible angle so I will share his photo next week.

Just have Gimli to go of those now.

My painting plan is in a little disarray at the minute due to the hands, so I have rejigged it a little, I may have to delay some of the Death a Korps as I need paint and I am out of money to buy any just now.

  1. Death Korps of Krieg Centaur Crew x 2
  2. Death Guard Heavy Support Squad with Autocannons x 10
  3. Blood Ravens Bikes x 3 and Attack Bike with Heavy Bolter
  4. Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue and Ridemaster
  5. Forge World Plague Marines x 10
  6. Chainrasp Horde x 40
  7. Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad Men with Special Weapons
  8. Blood Ravens Captains x 5
  9. Warcry Terrain
  10. Myrmourn Banshees x 12

I have decided to do the Chainrasps in batches of 40, I have a scheme is think will work quite well for them and help get them done fast.

I really want to keep in top of the Nighthaunt as they arrive with Mortal Realms.

What I Am Reading

I read a little of Celestine The Living Saint but haven’t picked it up since Saturday night 🙁

I have been listening to a number of audio dramas however, making my way through most of the 1 hour and less ones put out in recent years that I haven’t listened to. This week I have listened to :-

So quite a bit got listened to!

What I Am Playing

I played the two games of Horus Heresy with Graham and the lads, but we also played a game of Cards Against Humanity, it’s not my favourite game, but it can be fun with the right crowd.

What I Am Backing

We have backed The Rival Networks, we are big fans of the original game and backing this was a no brainier for us.

I am also still backing Justice Blocks, but that isn’t going to fund.

And the Rising Sun soundtrack arrived last night, but I haven’t listened to it yet.

What I Am Cooking

Made a pot noodle!

What I Am Spending

I spent a bit more than I wanted to this week. I bought a Predator for my Heresy Death Guard and Mortarion for my 40k Death Guard.

I also bought a new Army Painter drybrush, a can of Grey Seer and a few paints that I needed.

Hobby Resolutions – January Update

Today is the end of January and I am away so won’t be painting anything else so it’s time to give you an update on where I am at in regards to my hobby resolutions.

Paint 867 Models – 12.47% Complete

This one is coming along really nicely, I have thus far painted 108 models so I am well ahead of schedule.

Finish the Blood Ravens that I own on 1st January – 15.79% Complete

For this one, I have painted this month the Supressors and Infiltrators from Shadowspear, that means I have done 6 of the 38 units I have to paint this year, so I am currently on schedule for this, although 4 of the units were only single models.

Finish the Death Guard – 62.5% Complete

As of now I am well ahead on this one, this month I painted a Plagueburst Crawler, two Rhinos, Plague Marines from the multipart kit and a Plague Marine Champion.

However I can’t rest on my laurels for this one because Conquest will be adding Chaos Spawn and a Tallyman so I expect the numbers to change next month, but that will be all I plan to collect for the Death Guard for now, ideally I want this one complete by end of March so I can crack on with other stuff.

Other Resolutions

  • Paint Mortarion for Everchosen
  • Complete 1750 Points of T’au Empire
  • Complete 1750 Points of Orks
  • Complete 2000 Points of Stormcast Eternals
  • Rebase Blood Ravens Tacticals
  • Rebase Orks

None of these have been touched yet, but once I have cleared the Death Guard I can concentrate on other stuff, probably gonna focus on the Stormcast Eternals after that to be honest.

So here is a reminder of my current painting plan that’s changed a little bit since my last post but only because I need to stock up on a couple of paints!

  1. Blood Ravens Primaris Reivers x 10
  2. Death Korps of Krieg Centaur Crew and Grenidiers Soecial Weapons Men
  3. The Three Hunters
  4. Death Guard Heavy Support Squad with Autocannons x 10
  5. Death a Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue
  6. Blood Ravens Bikes x 3 and Attack Bike with Heavy Bolter
  7. Plague Marines x 10
  8. Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad Soecial Weapons Men x 10
  9. Chainrasp Horde x 20
  10. Blood Ravens Captain x 6

My Feelings On The Alleged Saudi Takeover of NUFC

Simply put, I don’t believe it, this kind of news comes along every time seasons tickets need to be sold or the transfer window is open.

It’s silly and I don’t know why people fall for it every time. Don’t get me wrong, I would love the Toon to be taken over by a billionaire owner with limitless funds to invest, but I can’t see it happening.

I am a realistic fan, my personal wish is for a decent cup run and to challenge for a place in the Europa League, anything else is a bonus, but Mike Ashley isn’t investing in the club to allow that to be even a possibility.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy the club is run on a sound financial footing, if Ashley were to jack it in tomorrow, we aren’t going to go tits belly up, but the club does need investment and if we are to ever be anything more than a bottom half club.

We have a great fan base and an amazing stadium, but we need an owner who will give the club the investment it so badly needs.

But I don’t think these Saudi folks will be them, to be honest, I have my doubts if they even know who Newcastle United are.

And if by some miracle it does go through, well I will do a dance in my wife’s bikini in wellies, I feel confident it won’t come to that.

What I Am Modelling

I was determined to get more done this week so I hit the ground running and picked up the next project which was a squad of Tempestus Scions and thier Taurox Prime transport.

I love the Tempestus Scions and I am working hard to getting my army of them up and running, I know it’s hampering myself by sticking to just these guys, but the plan is that they would work with allies, specifically Imperial Knights and Sisters of Battle.

At the same time I worked on a Haemotrope Reactor that I got with Warhammer 40,000 Conquest, this was done to match the one I already have from Conquest and has slipped nicely into the box of scenery from the magazine. But I am gonna need a bigger box once we get the final few bits of scenery for the collection.

I then painted up the remaining Plague Marines from the multipart kit, and the Plague Marine Champion I got from Conquest.

And then I started work on the Blood Ravens Librarians, of which I am doing four at once, one in MK VII Power Armour, one in Terminator Armour, a Primaris one and a Phobos Armoured one.

The officers I am painting all together because it allows me to get consistency across them, I have a few to add to the army as it only had a Captain, a Captain in Gravis Armour and a Primaris Lieutenant with Auto Bolt Rifle.

I still have 6 Captains and 5 Chaplains to do.

So how does that leave my painting plan for the next few weeks.

  1. Death Korps of Krieg Centaur Crew x 2
  2. Blood Ravens Reivers x 10
  3. Death Korps of Krieg Quatermaster and Retinue and Death Riders Ride Master
  4. The Three Hunters
  5. Death Guard Heavy Support Squad with Autocannons
  6. Blood Ravens Bikes x 3 and Attack Bike with Heavy Bolter
  7. Plague Marines made with Forge World Upgrade Kit x 10
  8. Death Korps of Krieg Command Squad Special Weapons Men x 10
  9. Chainrasp Horde x 20
  10. Blood Ravens Captains x 6

Niki is now doing the Centaurs himself and I am doing the crew so they match the other models, must admit I am a bit sad about that, but they are his models, just gives me an excuse to do some Death Korps of Krieg myself.

As you can also see the first Chainrasp Horde has made its way into the plan, I have 120 of these to do, so doing them in batches of 20, was tempted to do the full 40 for a unit all at once, still might do that, see how I am feeling.

Right now four of the units are primed, a further three are built awaiting priming and a further one is being built.

Tomorrow I am going to be priming the Death Korps of Krieg Centaur Crew, the Quartermaster and Retinue, the Plague Marines and I will hopefully finish building and prime the Autocannon Squad, if I can I will also build and prime the Chainrasps.

What I Am Reading

I haven’t read very much this week at all so still working on Celestine The Living Saint.

On the audiobook side I have listened to quite a bit, I finished Soul Wars, which was a lot of fun, I kinda wished a certain character hadn’t been killed off as I would have liked him to become an ongoing villain in the series which would have been interesting.

Then I listened to a few audio dramas rather than picking up a full book, I listened to The Embrace of Pain, Vox Tenebris, At Slaughters End, Holder of the Keys, Eye of Vengence, The Glorious Tomb, The Art of Provocation and The Shape of the Hunt, all of which I throughly enjoyed.

What I Am Playing

Not a sausage, haven’t even played a video game because the pain levels in my hands have been too bad

What I Am Backing

Still backing Justice Blocks even though it isn’t going to fund, but what can I say, I like the idea.

I really want to back Star Realms, but I simply cannot afford it, I had a copy of the original game, but Sweep peed on it and ruined it, Lindsay said she would replace it, but that never happened.

The Rival Networks will probably get backed, I just need Megan and Lindsay to agree to it.

And I must sort out BackerKit for Fiasco!

What I Am Cooking

I don’t think a Rustlers burger counts!

I was gonna make a stir fry for lunch, but Megan and Lindsay brought back McDonalds!

What I Am Spending

I haven’t bought a thing all week!

Pain Levels

I dunno why I am writing this, but I feel I need to.

My pain levels the past two months have been stupidly high, and it’s only getting worse, the last couple of weeks I can barely get out of bed and it’s only thanks to support from the girls that I can get dressed some mornings.

I don’t know why it’s gotten so worse, but it has and I am really struggling to cope.

I am gonna start trying a few simple exercises that I have read about, but honestly I feel like I am going backwards, I used to only have to prepare a couple of days for a trip out, now I have to prepare a week in advance, it’s kinda depressing.

I am already on a lot of painkillers and I don’t really want to go on anymore, so I am going to make an appointment to see a doctor next week to see if we can figure this out.

I am really hoping it’s not a progression of the brain injury.

I Played In A Tournament

I wasn’t expecting to play, but sadly I was unable to make a previously planned trip to Edinburgh for medical reasons, so I ended up playing in The Dark Artisans Winter Warmup tournament for Warhammer 40k.

It was three rounds and in my first game I played Tyranids, and lost very badly, my opponent seized the initiative and was able to badly cripple my heavy hitters before they had a chance to do any damage to him.

My second game was against Drukahri and that was closer, but I still lost, the invulnerable saves really made me work hard to kill anything.

My final game was a mixed one, my opponent said he got his list off the internet and it was entirely unpainted.

But that lad was canny so it was a good game, I won simply because whilst his list was powerful, he didn’t know how to use it.

My list was this:-

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Chaos - Death Guard) ++

+ HQ +

Malignant Plaguecaster: 1. Miasma of Pestilence, 5. Putrescent Vitality, The Pandemic Staff

Typhus: 2. Gift of Contagion, 5. Putrescent Vitality, Warlord

Plagueburst Crawler: 2x Entropy cannon, Heavy slugger

Chaos Rhino: Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher

Chaos Rhino: Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher

It’s all stuff that came from Conquest, and I had no plan on how to use it, in fact for most of it, this was the first time it saw the table.

I probably need to get to know the army better, it I went just to have three fun games and in the end, that’s what I got and I am happy with that.

What I Am Modelling

It’s been a so so week in terms of modelling, I started with some Necromunda doors that we will be using for my Zone Mortalis stuff, simple to do and these were done quite quickly.

Then I painted a Plague Marine Icon Bearer from the multipart Plague Marine kit for the tournament I played in on Sunday so that all of my Plague Marines were unique.

At the same time I finished off a squad of Death Korps of Krieg Engineers and a Hades Breaching Drill for Niki.

And then finally I painted up a Heavy Support Squad for my Ultramarines, armed with Volkite Culverins. This is a squad that has sat in my to do box for over three years and it felt good to finally get them done.

I also this week built one of my Repressors for my Sisters of Battle, but that’s gonna need a lot of green stuff before I prime it, and I also built my second Javelin, but I need to grab some magnets for that.

Right now I am working on a Millitarium Tempestus Squad armed with Plasma Guns and their Taurox Prime, and I am also working on the Haemotrope Reactor I got with my last delivery of Warhammer 40,000 Conquest as a side project.

So what does that do to my painting plan then.

  1. Tempestus Scions and Taurox Prime
  2. Plague Marines and Plague Marine Champion
  3. Death Korps of Krieg Centaurs
  4. Blood Ravens Reivers
  5. Blood Ravens Librarians
  6. Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue
  7. The Three Hunters
  8. Death Guard Heavy Support Squad with Autocannons
  9. Blood Ravens Bikes x 3 with Attack Bike
  10. Forge World Plague Marines

I have ready just over half of this list, the rest need priming before I can move forward with them.

What Am I Reading

I finished Requiem Infernal and it left me, quite confused, I am not sure what the ending was about but it was, different.

I have since started on Celestine The Living Saint by Andy Clark and I am enjoying that a lot, I am halfway through it now.

And I am still making my way through the Soul Wars audiobook.

What I Am Playing

Apart from the tournament I played in, I also played another game of Warhammer 40k, this was a 500pts game using the contents of Shaodowspear apart from the Captain and Librarian.

I played against some old school 1st edition metal Eldar, which were quite cool and I was throughly beaten!

It was nice to see the Vanguard in action, the Eliminators are amazing and the Supressors are surprisingly good, although I didn’t quite figure out how to use the Infiltrators right.

I am working on my Blood Ravens a lot at the minute, one of my 2020 hobby commitments is to complete them, and I aim to get the Phobos stuff out the way as I am not a fan of painting that armour.

The clubs games are jumping up to 750pts next week so for the next time I play I am thinking of this.

++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Space Marines) ++

**Chapter Selection**: Blood Ravens

+ HQ +

Librarian in Phobos Armour: 1) Shrouding, 1. Shoot and Fade, 2) Soul Sight, 6) Temporal Corridor, Camo cloak, Force sword, Tome of Malcador, Warlord

Lieutenants in Phobos Armor
. Lieutenant in Phobos Armour
. . Occulus Bolt Carbine and Bolt Pistol: Grav-chute, Master-crafted occulus bolt rifle

+ Troops +

Infiltrator Squad: 8x Infilltrator, Infiltrator Helix Adept, Infiltrator Sergeant

+ Elites +

Reiver Squad: Bolt Carbine, Grav Chutes
. 8x Reiver
. Reiver Sergeant: Bolt Carbine, Combat knife

+ Fast Attack +

Suppressor Squad
. 2x Suppressor: 2x Accelerator autocannon, 2x Grav-chute
. Suppressor Sergeant: Accelerator autocannon, Grav-chute

+ Heavy Support +

Eliminator Squad
. Eliminator Sergeant: Bolt sniper rifle, Camo cloak
. 2x Eliminator with Bolt Sniper: 2x Bolt sniper rifle, 2x Camo cloak

So just adding in a Reiver Squad and the Librarian bit keeping with the Phobos armoured theme.

What Am I Backing

I read about an interesting video game project called Justice Blocks, it’s by a Chinese guy named Frodo, and looks interesting.

It came to my attention as I heard they had some visa issues getting to PAX, so I ended up checking out the campaign and you know what, it kinda looks interesting, I doubt it will find, but I fancy joining the ride.

What I Am Cooking

I did attempt to cook, but it failed, I am still not doing so good on that front 🙁

What I Am Spending

I am not, I need to keep money for my trip to Nottingham for Graham’s birthday, but I did buy myself the Sisters of Battle dice, which are really really cool.

I did cave and buy a Contemptor Dreadnought for the Sons of Horus as well.

Welcome To The Mortal Realms

As many of you know, I have been eagerly collecting the Warhammer 40,000 Conquest series, which has really helped me grow my Death Guard and the Blood Angels army I share with Megan, as well as help me cheaply add certain units to my Blood Ravens.

Well Hachette have brought us a version for Age of Sigmar, which is Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Mortal Realms and it was released to shops this week.

The first issue is £2.99, and is superb value, it comes with a set of Easy To Build Sequitors, and an Easy to Build Chainrasp Horde, these normally retail at a combined value of £35, so the saving is unreal.

I know I wanted a big horde of Chainrasps and when the trial was on in the summer, I bought 6 copies then, and then planned to get another two when it launched nationally.

Well I got convinced that actually a really cool number to run some amazing games would be 120 of them instead of 80, so I may have been convinced to buy a few more than planned, which means a big painting job awaits me, but I have been slotting in a few hordes into my long term painting plans.

There is also a premium subscription for £2 extra a week and to be frank, the saving on that is utterly unreal, you get four deliveries of models, one for an army from each of the grand alliances, and you end up saving over 50% compared to retail, so obviously I have gone premium!

Conquest has got only a couple of deliveries left so this is replacing that in my budget, and I am looking forward to building a really cool Nighthaunt army and supplementing my Stormcast, but any Stormcast I already have will be going to Lindsay who is starting Astral Templar’s.

What I Am Modelling

I haven’t done very much this week, due to illness but I did get a couple of things done.

I started by finishing Ylthari’s Guardians, which were a lot of fun to paint.

And I then painted up the Vanguard Infiltrators from Shadowspear, which means all I need to do now from that box set are the Librarian and the Captain.

So how does this leave my painting schedule looking like

  1. Death Korps of Krieg Engineers and Hades Breaching Drill
  2. Ultramarines Heavy Support Squad with Volkite Culverins
  3. Millitarium Tempestus Scions and Taurox Prime
  4. Plague Marines and Plague Marine Champion
  5. Death Korps of Krieg Cetaur Lights
  6. Blood Ravens Reivers
  7. Blood Ravens Librarians
  8. Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue
  9. The Three Hunters
  10. Death Guard Heavy Support Squad with Autocannons

I have got the next four things built and primed and only three remain to be built and primed in total.

What I Am Reading

Still making my way through Requiem Infernal which I am enjoying a lot, but not reading as much as I would like to.

I have listened to a couple of audiobooks though, I listened first to Hammerhal from Hammerhal and Other Stories, followed by Sacrosanct from Sacrosanct and Other Stories.

And last night I started on Soul Wars, which so far is very entertaining.

What I Am Playing

Other than a little Mario Kart I haven’t played anything this week 🙁

What I Am Backing

Not backing anything right now, but Isle of Cats turned up, which looks really good and is even Jenny approved!

What I Am Cooking

Absolutely nowt, I have just been way too ill 🙁

What I Am Spending

I did manage to find the Nighthaunt warscroll cards at Travelling Man, which I was really happy about, and I will be making heavy use of these when I get my Nighthaunt up and running.

The Witcher – Wow!

It’s taken me a little while to watch The Witcher I would have loved to have binged it, but I find it very difficult to sit down and just watch TV for ages like I used to.

It’s utterly amazing, frankly it’s as good as the early seasons of Game of Thrones, absolutely amazing with extremely high production values, and the cast is bloody amazing.

The timeline takes a bit of getting used to, but I love how this first season has focused on the early short stories before getting stuck into the meat and bones of the novels.

You really get to understand more about the characters, what motivates them and where they came from.

I absolutely cannot wait to see the next season and I am pleased to be vindicated in my faith in Henry Cavill as a choice for Geralt.

What I Am Painting

Again this post comes after short gap since my last post, but may I have kept myself busy.

I started 2020 with a squad of Death Korps of Krieg Infantrymen, weirdly enough there were 11 of them, plus I also did their Quartermaster at the same time.

I then managed to quite quickly knock out my second Plagueburst Crawler that I got from Warhammer 40,000 Conquest.

And whilst working on Episode 0 of our fourth year of Edge of Empire I painted up these Primaris Suppressors for my Blood Ravens.

Mollog’s Mob finally got finished off after I managed to get some paints that I needed and I am very happy with these.

I got an Army of the Dead Banner Bearer from my in-laws at Christmas, and because my paint scheme for them is so very simple, I decided to paint them alongside Mollog’s Mob and some other stuff, and I am quite happy with how he turned out.

And on Sunday morning I finished up the last Death Korps of Krieg Infantry Squad for Niki, which brings phase one of the Death Korps of Krieg project to and end.

And now I am ready to start the next phase which will start with a squad of Engineers and a Hades Breaching Drill, but I need to build them.

I then picked up the Rhinos for the Death Guard and got them painted up fairly quickly, the scheme is super simple so they took very little time to paint.

Now I am working on Ylthari’s Guardians, and next will be picking up the Infiltrators from Shadowspear which will be joining the Blood Ravens.

So how does this leave my painting plan well right now it looks like this.

  1. Ylthari’s Guardians
  2. Blood Ravens Infiltrators
  3. Death Korps of Krieg Engineers and Hades Breaching Drill
  4. Ultramarines Heavy Support Squad with Volkite Culverins
  5. Millitarium Tempestus Scions and Taurox Prime
  6. Plague Marines and Plague Marine Champion
  7. Death Korps of Krieg Centaur Lights
  8. Blood Ravens Reivers
  9. Blood Ravens Librarians
  10. Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster and Retinue

What I Am Reading

I have been reading a couple of chapters of Requiem Infernal where I can, but I haven’t read as much as I would have liked.

I have been listening to audio dramas I paint, I managed to finish the Hunt for Nagash series, so that’s Sands of Blood, The Lords of Helstone and Bridge of Seven Sorrows.

I enjoyed this series but there was rather a lot of repetition of certain turns of words and phrasing between the stories that was a bit annoying, but the stories were great.

I then listened to The Knights of Vengeance series so that was The Beasts of Cartha, Fist of Mork, Fist of Gork, Great Red and Only The Faithful.

I found this series to be a bit better than Hunt for Nagash, they were a little bit more varied, and the alliance between the Ironjawz and Hallowed Knights was pretty cool.

What I Am Playing

Tabletop wise, I played a single game of Holiday Fluxx, before it gets packed away until next Christmas, and unusually, I won!

Video game wise I have mostly been playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch, which is a lot of fun!

I am working my way through the 50cc Cups and plan on moving up to the next level soon.

What I Am Backing

Still just Car Wars Sixth Edition which is in its last 48 hours now and so far what has been unlocked is incredible, my pledge currently includes:

  • Core Game with 12 Minis
  • Miniatures Set 1 with 5 Minis
  • Miniatures Set 3 with 5 Minis
  • Playmat 1
  • Playmat 3
  • Dice Bag
  • Uncle Al’s Upgrade Pack
  • Armoury Pack
  • Road Tiles
  • Dropped Weapons Pack
  • Crew Pack
  • Linked Weapons Pack

That’s an absolute ton of stuff for my Black Friday $139 pledge!

And if we get to $650,000 then a future Kickstarter to add motorbikes will be run, no sign of Boat Wars however 🙁

What I Am Cooking

This morning I helped to make a breakfast pizza which was nice, but the sausages were a bit too well done for my taste.

And this evening I helped Megan and Lindsay make a roast dinner, I was responsible for potatoes, and they didn’t turn out ok badly at all.

What I Am Spending

I bought a bunch of 32mm bases for rebasing some models, my resolutions have me rebasing my Orks and my Blood Ravens Tactical Squads.

I’d like to do the Space Wolves as well at some point but my lack of motivation to do anything with that army is holding me back.

New Year, New Goals

So this year I set out doing the #Painthammer2019 hobby log with the aim of painting a mode for every day of the year.

I ended up painting 866 models in 2019, and you can see my completed log here so I have decided that I want to beat that next year and paint at least 867 models in 2020.

Plus I have a few other goals I wish to hit as well.

  • Paint 867 models in total
  • Finish the Blood Ravens that I own on 1st January 2020
  • Finish the Death Guard
  • Paint Mortarion for Everchosen
  • Complete 1750pts worth of T’au
  • Complete 1750pts worth of Orks
  • Complete 2000pts of Stormcast Eternals
  • Rebase Blood Ravens Tacticals
  • Rebase Orks
  • Enter Armies on Parade

So this requires a wider range of painting focus than I normally do, because I want to complete a few projects that have been sitting around for ages.

I know normally people want to do the whole improve yourself resolutions but I tend to find I fail them, so focusing on hobby goals instead.

Geekmas was good, we opened the Switch and we bought Carcassonne, Catan, Pandemic, Final Fantasy IX and UNO for it.

Megan bought me a Folded Space insert for 7 Wonders, a Mechanicum t-shirt, and a paint pot holder so I was happy with those.

What I Am Painting

It’s only been a few days since my last blog post so I haven’t gotten much done, I did complete the Foetid Bloat-Drones, and Mollog’s Mob is coming along fine but I won’t get them finished for a little while as I need Carroberg Crimson and I am out of that.

So I have moved a couple of things around on my painting schedule to keep things fresh, so here it is right now.

  1. Mollog’s Mob
  2. Death Korps of Krieg Infantry Squad and Quatermaster
  3. Plagueburst Crawler
  4. Blood Ravens Supressors
  5. Death Korps of Krieg Infantry Squad
  6. Ylthari’s Guardians
  7. Death Guard Rhinos
  8. Blood Ravens Infiltrators
  9. Death Korps of Krieg Engineers and Hades Breaching Drill
  10. Ultramarines Volkite Culverin Heavy Support Squad

Obviously I have lots of things to add and move around, so that’s gonna be something that filters through in the next few weeks.

What I Am Reading

Sad to say I haven’t read anything this week 🙁

I did however listen to Prisoner of the Black Sun, now that I am out of main Realmgate Wars stories, which was enjoyable and have now just started Sands of Blood.

What I Am Playing

I age played a bit these past few days, we played two games of Maki Stack which Megan gotten Lindsay for Christmas.

We then introduced Paul to Just One followed by a game of Carcassonne on the Switch.

We also played a first game of Island of a Thousand Cats which I won, and it was very fun, although Megan was very unsure about the whole game.

And finally yesterday morning we played Stuffed Fables, and personally I didn’t have a good time playing it, but I think that was largely due to the amount of downtime because Lindsay and Megan spent a lot of time reading and rereading rules.

I also went to the Durham Raiders Long Gaming Day and played two games of Zone Mortalis, one with my Custodes that I painted up for the Adeptus Terra challenge, and they were really really really good in that game.

The second game was with my Death Guard, in which is used my Grave Wardens for the first time, and they were really quite good, the toxin grenades are very powerful.

And finally we played an Age of Darkness game of 3000pts a side.

What I Am Backing

Still just Car Wars Sixth Edition, but that is really knocking down stretch goals right now!

What I Am Cooking

Not a thing in the past few days.

What I Am Spending

I bought myself The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition on XBox for £10.39 which was brilliant, I had been considering getting it for Switch, but on that it was £49.99 so yeah, no question really as to what platform to get it on.
